History
1988
Incorporated as Coast Composites Inc., part of Union Carbide Corporation
Initial business focus on monolithic graphite molds for satellite reflectors
1990
Expands business into other types of tooling and materials, including steel and aluminum layup molds
1993
Introduction into Invar tooling
Key supplier to Lockheed & Boeing for F22 tooling
Manufactured RTM tooling for GKN
Introduction of engineering & design department to support tool manufacture
1995
Inception of fabrication facility for tooling manufacture specialized in Invar fabricated structures and forming
1998
Facility a capacity expansion: doubled facility size, installed large Henri Line high-speed machining center, added support equipment for machining details, introduction of laser tracker systems for measurement and build
2000
Further capacity expansion: doubled capacity of fabrication facility
2001
Expands outside the U.S. to become a supplier to Europe with tooling for the Airbus A380
2003
Change of ownership to HKW leads to capabilities expansion, growth for engineering and design group
Develops patented laser-welding technology for modular tool manufacture
2005
Joins Hampson Industries PLC
Supplies wing and fuselage tooling for Boeing 787 to U.S. and Japanese partners (Mitsubishi, Kawasaki, Fuji)
2006
Increases in manufacturing capacity with additional facility in Santa Ana, California
Supplies tooling for A400M to Europe
2006
Hampson acquires Odyssey Industries and Global Tooling Systems and creates Tooling Group
2007
Expands capabilities and facility at Santa Ana site to enable vertical integration for fabrication: hi-definition plasma cutting area, forming equipment, large-capacity cranes, high-temperature heat treat facility (largest in western U.S.), sand blast and paint facility
2008
Selected as tooling supplier to Airbus for the A350 program for center wingbox, wings and fuselage
2011
Expands customer base to include South America and China, to supply tooling for Embraer and Comac
Contracted to build 787 rear fuselage tooling of BMI composite
2012
Opens Santa Ana composites tooling facility, adding new building, ply cutter, freezer storage, and laser template capability
American Industrial Partners acquires the U.S. operating subsidiaries of Hampson Aerospace
2013
Composites tooling facility upgraded with 13′ X 50′ autoclave, 12′ X 30′ oven, laser welding upgrades, oven, and additional laser welding equipment
2014
Machining facility upgraded with several new machining centers
