Located in hall 5 at booth P6, Ascent Aerospace will be showcasing a patented HyVarC® tool as well as a 3D printed trim fixture demo tool that was produced on a Thermwood large format additive manufacturing (LFAM) machine. The HyVarC® capitalizes on the desirable performance characteristics of Invar and composites to offer an ideal layup mold for a variety of tooling applications. A carbon fiber composite working surface is bonded to a thin Invar backup structure and facesheet, resulting in a tool that is lightweight, quick to manufacture, and flexible to changes, while maintaining the superior vacuum integrity and dimensional precision expected in an Invar mold.
By combining the LFAM technology with Ascent’s in-house tooling expertise and heritage engineering capability, it makes it possible to fabricate and deliver production-ready fixtures and molds with significantly reduced lead-times compared to traditional metallic tooling. The wide variety of materials that are compatible with the LFAM, such as ABS, Polycarbonate, Nylon, and PESU, will allow Ascent to create tailored solutions to meet customer needs and specifications.
