Case Study #1

Customers of a rocket program and an inlet program came to Ascent Aerospace for a full factory integration and sub-assembly solution into their respective plants. Ascent’s experienced engineers worked to understand and analyze their manufacturing processes to establish the best tooling philosophy to meet each customer’s manufacturing goals. Their processes were studied for automated solutions and return on investment calculations were completed. As a result, a new factory layout was produced. The analysis, tool concepts, layout, and reports allowed our customers to make confident purchasing decisions based on solid data and a complete manufacturing picture, reducing rework, changes, and cost increases.

Case Study #2

The horizontal integration work center is a combination of access platforms, material handling equipment, and utilities supporting the integration of all the systems in the assemblies. One system provides technician access and part manipulation through the length of the assembly. The other system provides technician access and part manipulation inside both ends of the assembly, but not complete access due to the internal structure. This project called for an integrated tooling solution. Material lifts were provided for both systems. Ascent offered options with enhanced safety features for the systems and technician lifts.

Case Study #3

The A350 Final Assembly Line project was a multi-phase/multi-year execution to support increased rates. Ascent was the integrator for the project from design and build, to installation.

The project included assembly tooling, platforms, material handling, flexible positioning systems, commissioning, and production support. The key element was the positioning system and supporting controls. The positioners aligned the fuselage sections for assembly, while a separate positioning system was used to align the wings to the fuselage. These two alignment systems worked together harmoniously in supporting the final assembly, increasing efficiency, quality, and rate.
